Rhys Montanarello grew up under the influence of the great classic rock and blues guitarists such as Angus Young, B.B. King, and John Mayer. However, it was in jazz guitar where Rhys found his true calling. Rhys has studied under prominent Arizona guitarists/educators Jeff Libman and Pete Pancrazi, and recently received his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from Arizona State University. He plans to return to ASU to pursue a Master’s degree in the near future.

Rhys’ journey on the guitar has seen him perform in a wide range of contexts including Big Bands, Jazz Combos, Rock Cover Bands, and as a solo Singer-Songwriter. Rhys continues to perform in ensembles at local community colleges as well as gigging professionally throughout the valley.

Rhys believes enjoyment is the key to musical education, that connecting a foundation of theory and technique with self-expression and curiosity is the pathway to creating lifelong relationships between students and their instruments.
